Experiments With AI-Created “Art”

[Some of the stuff in this post might get me murdered – but at difficult times like this, I like to think of a powerful quote from Susan B. Anthony: “Heroes live forever, [but] badasses never die.” Strong words from a strong woman – and reason enough for me to forge ahead.]

Anyways.

Say what you will about artificial intelligence endangering manmade art[1]; you have to admit that publicly available image-creating AI models provide almost limitless potential for entertainment.

I’ve found that my (free) artist-replacement of choice, Craiyon[2], does well with bizarre prompts, although the visual fidelity of the results leaves something to be desired. For this series I focused on placing real-world figures (both contemporary and historical) into contexts that some might consider…unnatural. In case you’re wondering, the results for [name of historical figure redacted because I don’t want to get my head chopped off but there’s only like one guy where that happens and you know who it is] are disappointing, although some good stuff will crop up if you add the words “anime style” to the prompt right before the name.[3]

Without further ado, I present to you…

“Steampunk Joe Biden”

“Synthwave Harriet Tubman”

“Cyberpunk Margaret Thatcher”

“Anime Jeff Bezos”

“Bauhaus Joan of Arc”

“Claymation Kamala Harris”

“Noir Donald Trump”

“Dwayne Johnson Riding a Dragon”

[UPDATE 12.20.22: Removed ‘Art Deco Kanye West,’ for obvious reasons.]

[1] Yeah, I have thoughts on it, but they aren’t funny, so I’m not writing about them. That’s a good rule for life in general.

[3] I don’t get fatwa’d for asking an AI to draw it, right? Checkmate, religious extremists.
